£10K Reward Offered After UK Couple Attacked in Crypto Home Invasion

UK charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in a violent home invasion that forced a couple in the West Midlands to transfer cryptocurrency to the attackers.

Details of the attack

On 13 December 2025, a couple returned to their home in Smith's Wood, Solihull, around 5:20 pm. As they opened the front door, three men exited a nearby car and forced their way inside. The husband was assaulted and suffered significant injuries, while the pregnant wife was threatened with a knife.

The intruders coerced the pair into moving a large sum of cryptocurrency to a wallet controlled by the attackers. They also stole several high‑value watches before fleeing in a black BMW X3.

Coordinated planning

Police say the robbery was pre‑planned and targeted. A fourth individual, not present at the scene, directed the three assailants via a video call, providing real‑time instructions. All four suspects are believed to be in their twenties, with one described as a black man with a small diagonal scar beneath his left eyebrow.

Crimestoppers, an independent UK charity that collects anonymous crime tips, announced the reward on 24 September 2026, more than nine months after the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.

Security firm CertiK reports that home invasions have become the dominant form of “crypto wrench attacks” in the first half of 2026, accounting for 41 % of all recorded incidents (20 out of 52 attacks). The firm identified 52 attacks worldwide, exposing $124.1 million in crypto assets. Europe accounted for three‑quarters of these cases, with France experiencing the highest number of incidents.

CertiK notes a layered attack structure, where organizers purchase data and coordinate logistics, while separate operatives carry out the physical robbery. The use of a remote video‑call operator in this case aligns with that pattern.
