Anchorage Digital partners with LayerZero to enable cross‑chain stablecoins

Anchorage Digital selected LayerZero for stablecoin interoperability, starting with Tether’s USAT and extending to other bank‑issued tokens.

Anchorage Digital announced a partnership with LayerZero to provide a preferred interoperability layer for stablecoins issued through its federally chartered bank. The first token to launch on LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard is Tether’s USAT.

How the partnership works

LayerZero will supply the messaging and token infrastructure that connects supported blockchain networks, while Anchorage Digital Bank remains responsible for regulated issuance. The OFT standard lets issuers keep a single token supply and extend the asset to multiple chains, with control over which chains are supported and the security configuration for cross‑chain messages.

First stablecoin on the rail – USAT

USAT, a U.S. dollar‑backed token issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on behalf of Tether, is the inaugural stablecoin using LayerZero’s OFT interoperability. The token launched on Ethereum and later expanded to Celo. Anchorage publishes monthly reserve attestations for USAT.

Other Anchorage‑issued stablecoins slated for OFT support

  • USDPT – a Western Union‑backed dollar token launched on Solana.
  • USDGO – issued for OSL Group, also on Solana.
  • fUSD – issued for Falcon Finance, deployed on Ethereum and BNB Chain.

These assets are expected to gain LayerZero interoperability over time, though specific deployment schedules have not been disclosed.

Scope of LayerZero’s network

LayerZero reports that its OFT infrastructure can connect more than 170 blockchain networks. In a recent update, the company said the OFT standard had processed $280 billion in lifetime transfers and accounted for 87 % of cross‑chain transfer volume on its network.

Regulatory backdrop

Anchorage Digital Bank operates under supervision by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which granted its national trust bank charter in 2021. The bank continues to meet OCC capital, liquidity and compliance requirements.
