Bitcoin, Ethereum ETFs Bleed $592 Million as CLARITY Act Fails in Senate

Spot ETFs for Bitcoin and Ethereum saw their biggest single‑day outflows in months on September 15, losing a combined $592 million after the CLARITY Act stalled in the U.S. Senate.

On September 15, spot exchange‑traded funds (ETFs) tracking Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) experienced their deepest single‑day outflows in months, shedding a total of $592 million. The withdrawals coincided with the CLARITY Act’s failure to advance in the U.S. Senate, which pushed prices lower and prompted investors to pull capital.

Ethereum ETFs Record Largest Outflow Since January

Ethereum‑linked funds lost $141.47 million, marking the biggest daily outflow since January 30. The previous record since that date was a $136.4 million drain on March 19. The decline followed four weeks of net inflows, during which ETH products attracted $1.94 billion, peaking at $824.4 million in late August.

Bitcoin ETFs See Heaviest Outflow Since June

Bitcoin funds saw a $450.33 million outflow, the worst session since June 25. The week prior had recorded $462.7 million in withdrawals, the largest since early July, after three weeks of strong buying.

Trading Volume Mirrors Outflows

Bitcoin ETF trading volume reached $4.35 billion on the day, well above the 30‑day average of $2.74 billion. Ethereum ETF volume more than doubled its typical level.

Altcoin ETF Activity Mixed

Among altcoin funds, only Hyperliquid (HYPE) posted an outflow, losing $3.89 million and extending a September decline of $18.04 million. Four funds recorded inflows, led by Solana (SOL) ETFs with $1.35 million. Tron (TRX), Dogecoin (DOGE) and Hedera (HBAR) each added under $500,000. Ten other altcoin funds, including BNB, XRP, LINK, AVAX, DOT and LTC, reported zero flows. The 11 altcoin funds ended the day with a net outflow of $1.66 million, holding a combined $3.55 billion.

Monthly Performance Remains Positive

Despite the heavy single‑day outflows, both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs remain in positive territory for September. Bitcoin funds show a net gain of $17.1 million month‑to‑date, while Ethereum funds retain a $307.4 million gain.

Outlook

The market now looks ahead to the Federal Reserve’s rate decision, scheduled for the following Wednesday, marking another policy test within 24 hours.
