Bitcoin Advances Quantum Security While Solana Slashes Inflation

Bitcoin tests quantum‑resistant transactions and a new post‑quantum signature proposal, while Solana validators approve a plan to halve token issuance over the next three years.

Bitcoin’s development community is making concrete steps toward protecting the network from future quantum attacks. At the same time, Solana’s governance has approved a major disinflation measure that will reduce new token supply by nearly 19 million SOL over the next six years.

Quantum‑resistant experiments on Bitcoin

StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy successfully broadcast a transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet that used a Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB) scheme. The scheme combines hash‑based one‑time signatures with a computational search that binds the authorization to a specific transaction, protecting the output while the public key is exposed in the mempool. The test spent a 10,000‑satoshi output and required several hours and a fee of $150‑$200.

Blockstream researchers released a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) that introduces the SHRINCS signature scheme, a hash‑based post‑quantum signature reduced in size by about 13.23 times compared with earlier versions. Although the signatures remain roughly nine times larger than Bitcoin’s current signatures, Blockstream’s Jonas Nick described the proposal as a solid trade‑off and the first concrete post‑quantum signature design for Bitcoin.

Solana doubles disinflation rate

Solana validators voted 67 % in favor of proposal SGP‑0002, known as Double Disinflation. The change raises the annual disinflation rate from 15 % to 30 %, cutting the network’s token issuance by 18.9 million SOL over six years and shortening the path to the long‑term inflation target of 1.5 % from about 5.7 years to roughly 2.8 years.

Participation in the vote reached 60.7 % of eligible stake, with 25.16 % voting against and 7.84 % abstaining. The move follows a period of record transaction activity on Solana, which processed 4.2 billion transactions in July, a 13.5 % increase from June.

Analyst outlook

Bernstein analysts project Bitcoin could reach $125,000 in the near term, with a base‑case peak of $300,000 and a bullish scenario topping $500,000 by 2029.

Other notable developments

Revolut began a phased rollout of a euro‑pegged stablecoin (EURR) to customers in Denmark, Poland and Portugal, using the Ethereum network and issued by Bridge Building S.A.

CryptoQuant’s Bull/Bear Market Cycle Indicator turned positive for the first time since October, suggesting a shift from bear to bull conditions for Bitcoin.
