Bitget Wallet joins Japan's Blockchain Collaborative Consortium

Bitget Wallet announced its membership in Japan’s Blockchain Collaborative Consortium (BCCC), the industry body that represents more than 270 blockchain‑related companies and organisations. The move positions the self‑custodial wallet to take part in formal policy discussions on self‑custody, wallet standards, DeFi regulation and stablecoins.

Background on Japan’s regulatory landscape

New rules for cryptocurrency service intermediaries took effect in Japan in June 2026, drawing attention to the distinction between custodial services that hold users’ assets or private keys and self‑custodial platforms where users retain full control. The Financial Services Agency has also created a dedicated Cryptocurrency and Stablecoin Division and is advancing legislation to classify digital assets as financial instruments.

Bitget Wallet’s role in BCCC

Through BCCC’s committees, Bitget Wallet will share its experience operating a self‑custodial product across more than 130 blockchains and serving over 100 million users. The wallet aims to contribute to the development of standards that protect users while reflecting the operational realities of non‑custodial services.

Product developments

In July, Bitget Wallet launched “Assetback,” allowing eligible card users to automatically convert purchase rewards into assets such as Bitcoin, tokenized gold, tokenized U.S. equities and USDC. The company also integrated Solana Pay for direct USDC and SOL transactions and expanded its card and merchant payment services internationally.

Separate regulatory situation for Bitget exchange

While Bitget Wallet is joining the consortium, the centralized Bitget exchange is withdrawing its services from Japan following multiple warnings from regulators. The exchange stopped new registrations for Japanese residents and set a timeline for closing existing accounts.
