Blockchain.com and NYSE to Explore Tokenized US Stocks and ETFs

Blockchain.com and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) have signed a memorandum of understanding to give Blockchain.com users access to tokenized U.S. exchange‑listed stocks and exchange‑traded funds (ETFs) through NYSE’s planned digital platform.

Planned Digital ATS Platform

The service depends on the launch of NYSE’s digital alternative trading system (ATS) and any required regulatory approvals. If launched, the platform would enable 24/7 trading, fractional shares, stablecoin funding and immediate on‑chain settlement of tokenized securities.

Benefits for Both Parties

• NYSE gains an additional distribution channel for its tokenized securities platform.
• Blockchain.com can expand its stock offering beyond the tokenized products it already offers with Ondo Finance outside the U.S.

Token Holder Rights

Token holders would retain traditional shareholder rights, including dividends and voting, for both tokenized versions of existing shares and shares issued directly as digital tokens.

Data Sharing Arrangement

ICE Data Services, part of NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange, will distribute Blockchain.com’s crypto market data and analytics to its clients. Blockchain.com plans to add ICE and NYSE exchange data feeds to its app, giving its more than 44 million confirmed accounts access to real‑time stock information.

Regulatory Context

The launch remains subject to regulatory approval. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission recently introduced a five‑year “innovation exemption” that provides relief from certain rules for on‑chain trading of eligible tokenized U.S. stocks, provided the tokens carry the same rights as traditional shares.

Industry Outlook

Interest in tokenized securities is growing, with estimates that tokenized assets could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030 under a base‑case forecast.
