Brazil's Central Bank Launches Real‑Time Crypto Threat Alert System

The Central Bank of Brazil is preparing to deploy a real‑time crypto threat alert system designed to help banks and domestic cryptocurrency exchanges identify, process, and respond to cyberattacks that attempt to move stolen funds into digital assets.

Partnership and Development

The platform was built together with Hypernative, a firm that specializes in neutralising digital‑asset threats before they materialise. According to Valor Economico, the system has already undergone testing with undisclosed market participants.

Integration Timeline

Regina Pedroso, executive director of the Brazilian Tokenization Association (ABToken), said integration will begin within the next two weeks, with participating entities receiving and redistributing alerts.

Targeted Institutions

Major national exchanges, including Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin, are slated to join the alert network, ensuring that suspicious crypto movements are flagged promptly.

Background of the Initiative

The tool was conceived after a July 2025 incident in which cybercriminals exploited a vulnerability in middleware provider C&M, siphoning roughly $180 million from the financial system and cashing out part of the proceeds via Bitcoin and USDT on exchanges. The episode highlighted the need for guardrails to maintain fund traceability when assets move from traditional finance to crypto channels.

Regulatory Context

The alert system forms part of a broader effort by Brazil’s central bank to strengthen cyber‑resilience in the rapidly expanding crypto market, complementing other measures such as temporary holds on large crypto transfers.
