Chelsea Secures First Shirt Sponsor in Four Years – Circle’s USDC Takes the Front
Chelsea land a crypto sponsor after 4 years. Circle's USDC goes on the shirt as the club's value drops.
Chelsea Football Club has announced a new front‑of‑shirt sponsorship for the 2026/27 season, ending a four‑year period without a primary sponsor. The sponsor is Circle, the U.S. company behind the USDC stablecoin.
Deal details
The agreement runs for one season, with the Circle/USDC logo set to appear on Chelsea’s men’s, women’s and academy kits for the opening match against Brighton. The partnership follows previous short‑term deals with Infinite Athlete and Dubai‑based developer Damac after the club’s previous long‑term sponsor, Three UK, ended in 2023.
Shirt valuation context
Industry tracker The Sponsor reported that Chelsea’s shirt value fell to £33.6 million, a drop of £16.7 million from the previous assessment, partly attributed to missing European competition. The club’s stated market rate for a sponsor is around £50 million per season.
Why a regulated stablecoin
USDC is the sixth‑largest crypto asset, with a market cap of roughly $73.6 billion. Circle obtained a French e‑money licence in July 2024, becoming the first major stablecoin issuer cleared under the EU’s MiCA framework. The timing aligns with recent UK regulatory guidance warning Premier League clubs about unauthorised finance sponsors.
Regulatory backdrop
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has indicated that full oversight of stablecoin issuers will begin in October 2027. The Chelsea‑Circle deal therefore precedes the implementation of those rules, giving Circle exposure on a Premier League platform before the new regime takes effect.
