CME Launches Crypto Index That Excludes Bitcoin and Ether

The 10-asset emerging benchmark is free-float market-cap weighted, with real-time pricing and London, New York and Asia-Pacific settlement variants.

CME Group introduced two new multi‑asset cryptocurrency benchmarks, expanding its suite of crypto market indices.

Emerging Crypto Index Excludes Bitcoin and Ether

The CME CF Emerging Crypto Index tracks ten of the largest crypto assets that are not Bitcoin (BTC) or Ether (ETH). The constituents are BNB, XRP, SOL, HYPE, LINK, XLM, SUI, UNI, AVAX and AAVE. The index uses a free‑float market‑cap weighting methodology, recalculating values every second and providing daily settlement prices for London, New York and Singapore/Hong Kong markets.

Broad Crypto Market Index Includes Bitcoin and Ether

The companion CME CF Crypto Market Index includes the same ten assets plus BTC and ETH, covering a total of twelve qualifying assets. It follows the same weighting and settlement approach.

Methodology and Review Schedule

  • Both indices are free‑float market‑cap weighted.
  • Rebalancing occurs semi‑annually on the first business day of June and December.
  • The emerging index applies custody access requirements, excludes meme coins, and screens protocols based on total value locked relative to market cap.
  • New assets not yet meeting U.S. exchange listing standards may enter at a combined maximum weight of 10% for up to 30 days.

Product Use Cases

CME designed the indices to be investable for passive replication in funds and for use in derivative contracts. Licensing is available for financial products, investment funds, or derivative instruments.
