Coinbase launches 10x crypto futures in Canada

Coinbase has launched 23 perpetual and dated crypto futures for eligible Canadian investors, with leverage of up to 10 times on supported contracts.

Coinbase has opened 23 crypto futures markets to eligible sophisticated and institutional investors in Canada. The offering includes both perpetual contracts, which have no fixed expiry, and dated futures that settle at a predetermined time.

Supported contracts and assets

The futures cover Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and 20 additional digital assets. Coinbase also added five commodity contracts linked to gold, silver and oil, plus an index product called COIN50 that tracks a basket of major digital assets.

Leverage and contract size

All contracts are offered in nano‑sized units, reducing the capital required to open a position. Leverage of up to 10 times is available, depending on the specific contract and margin requirements. With 10 × leverage, a trader can control a position worth ten times the margin posted, while also facing higher liquidation risk if margin levels fall.

Access and eligibility

Access is limited to Canadian investors who meet the platform’s sophisticated or institutional eligibility rules. Clients can trade the contracts through Coinbase Financial Markets, a futures commission merchant registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Pricing

Coinbase introduced a temporary fee of 0.02 % per trade plus $0.11 per contract. The duration of this introductory rate and the standard pricing after it ends were not disclosed.

Regulatory context

Coinbase Financial Markets operates under a CFTC registration and is a member of the National Futures Association. The Canadian service is provided under an international exemption rather than a domestic retail framework.
