College Students and Parents Show Strong Support for Crypto Education, While Course Availability Lags

A new OKX report finds that 90% of college students and 87% of parents want crypto and blockchain taught in higher‑education curricula, yet only about 28% of AACSB‑accredited U.S. business schools currently offer any related courses.

Demand for cryptocurrency and blockchain education among college students and their parents far exceeds the supply of formal courses at U.S. business schools.

Survey shows overwhelming support for crypto curricula

The OKX "New Money Curriculum" survey reports that 90% of college students and 87% of parents believe colleges should include crypto and blockchain topics in financial‑education programs. Of those, 27% of students and 32% of parents say such instruction should be required rather than optional.

Limited course offerings at accredited business schools

A separate study of 533 AACSB‑accredited U.S. business schools found that only 151 institutions (≈28%) offered at least one blockchain‑related class. Among them, 76 schools provided two or more such courses, and only two universities offered ten or more.

Students rely mainly on social media for crypto knowledge

When asked where they learn about crypto, 33% of students named social media or influencers as their primary source, compared with just 7% who cited schools, teachers, or professors. Financial advisers (17%) and crypto platforms/apps (12%) followed. Parents reported crypto platforms/apps (21%) and financial advisers (19%) as their top sources.

Students teaching parents and interest in crypto compensation

Nearly half of students (47%) said they had taught a parent or guardian about crypto or investing, and 56% indicated they would accept a job that paid 20% of salary in Bitcoin. Parent willingness was slightly higher at 62%.

Industry‑backed programs remain isolated

Some crypto firms are funding university initiatives, such as Ripple’s partnerships with the University of Kansas and NYU Abu Dhabi, which provide hands‑on blockchain projects and research. These programs are industry‑specific and do not reflect a broader increase in academic course offerings.
