Bybit Secures Austrian E‑Money License and Pursues MiFID Authorization
Bybit holds an electronic money institution license in Austria and is close to obtaining a MiFID license, according to CEO Ben Zhou.

Bybit, a major cryptocurrency exchange, has confirmed that it possesses an electronic money institution (EMI) license in Austria. The company is also in the final stages of acquiring a MiFID (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive) license, its chief executive Ben Zhou told CoinDesk.
Regulatory progress in Europe
The Austrian EMI license enables Bybit to offer electronic money services within the European Economic Area. Securing a MiFID license would further expand its ability to provide a broader range of financial products, including regulated securities and derivatives, to European users.
Implications for Bybit’s service offering
With both licenses, Bybit aims to develop a “super‑app” that integrates cryptocurrency trading with traditional financial instruments such as stocks and derivatives, positioning itself as a comprehensive platform for retail investors across Europe.
