DOJ Seizes Over $560,000 in Crypto Linked to Hamas Fundraising

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that federal investigators have seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency that authorities say was intended for Hamas fundraising. The operation also involved the FBI taking control of several domains and servers used by the Al Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing, to facilitate donations and recruitment.

Crypto seizures authorized by multiple warrants

Three warrants dated March 25, 2025; June 25, 2025; and October 10, 2025 authorized the seizure of cryptocurrency assets. The first publicly disclosed seizure recovered approximately $201,400 from wallets and exchange accounts. Subsequent warrants increased the total recovered amount to over $560,000.

Online infrastructure targeted

Two additional warrants, issued July 29, 2026 and August 18, 2026, allowed the FBI to seize domains and servers linked to Hamas fundraising platforms, including the site alqassam.ps, described as the Al Qassam Brigades’ main website. Control of this infrastructure enables investigators to intercept further cryptocurrency donations and gather information on donors.

Investigation methods

Authorities traced rotating cryptocurrency addresses distributed through encrypted group chats and websites. Public blockchain records, combined with data from exchanges and human sources, allowed investigators to follow the flow of funds. A Chainalysis review confirmed that transfers moved through exchanges, brokers, and operational wallets before seizure.

Legal status

The seizures were authorized by court warrants, but no criminal convictions or forfeiture judgments have been announced. Final forfeiture will require a separate legal process, and the DOJ has not disclosed the specific cryptocurrencies involved or identified any charged individuals.
