Bitcoin Bull Score Jumps to 80, Yet $83,000 Barrier Remains

CryptoQuant says Bitcoin (BTC) has entered a new bull market regime after its Bull Score rose from 30 to 80 within a single week, marking the fastest reversal in the past year. The score, which aggregates ten on‑chain and market indicators, now reflects its most bullish reading since October 2025.

Key price movement

Since August 17, Bitcoin has gained roughly 24%, reaching an intraday high of $81,272 on Binance, the highest level since mid‑May 2026. At the time of writing, BTC was trading around $79,224, up 1.9% over the previous 24 hours.

What drives the rally?

• U.S. Treasury announced a doubling of long‑term bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation starting September 9.
• Market sentiment was boosted by speculation that the U.S. government might purchase Bitcoin directly.

On‑chain and demand signals

Eight of the ten Bull Score inputs are currently positive. Spot demand is expanding at its fastest monthly pace since late December, and spot and futures demand are growing together for the first time since early October 2025.

Potential obstacles

The analysis notes that short‑term market conditions appear stretched. Unrealized profit margins for traders have risen to 20.5%, the highest level since June 2025, and whales recorded a record $614 million in profits on August 20. Exchange inflows for Bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH) and XRP have also increased, a pattern that can precede selling pressure.

What’s needed for confirmation?

CryptoQuant’s head of research, Julio Moreno, says the bull market will be officially confirmed only if Bitcoin closes above its 365‑day moving average, currently near $83,000. The next weekly close will be a critical test.
