Fidelity expands institutional Fidelity Digital Dollar stablecoin
Fidelity Digital Assets reports about 50 million FIDD tokens in circulation, each redeemable for one U.S. dollar, with daily supply disclosures and monthly PwC‑verified reserve reports.

Fidelity Digital Assets renewed its push for the Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD) on September 9, positioning the Ethereum‑based stablecoin for payments, settlement and tokenized markets.
Token details and backing
FIDD is an ERC‑20 token on Ethereum, pegged one‑to‑one with the U.S. dollar and redeemable for cash. Reserves consist of cash, short‑term Treasury securities, overnight reverse repurchase agreements, government money‑market funds and deposits at regulated U.S. banks, held in segregated accounts including the Bank of New York Mellon.
Supply and transparency
Fidelity’s public dashboard shows roughly 50.09 million FIDD outstanding, giving the token a market capitalization of about $50.09 million at its $1 redemption value. The firm publishes daily circulating‑supply figures and prepares monthly reserve reports examined by PwC under AICPA standards.
Access and redemption
Eligible clients can buy or redeem FIDD through Fidelity Digital Assets, Fidelity Crypto and Fidelity Crypto for Wealth Managers. External platforms Kraken and Bullish also support the token. Redemption requires an approved Fidelity account and completion of identity, AML and sanctions checks; settlements are typically near‑instant but may take up to two business days.
Use cases and limitations
Fidelity describes FIDD as a payment instrument rather than an investment. Potential applications include continuous settlement, account funding, capital transfers and tokenized real‑world assets. The token does not earn interest for holders, carries no FDIC or SIPC insurance, and is not legal tender. Fidelity may restrict or freeze tokens to comply with sanctions, fraud or other legal risks.
Market context
FIDD joins a concentrated dollar‑stablecoin market led by Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC. While its circulation is modest, Fidelity leverages its custody, trading and asset‑management infrastructure to compete for institutional usage.
