From Wallet to Wallet: How BIX Is Making Crypto More Usable in Everyday Life
There is a particular frustration familiar to anyone holding stablecoins. The balance sits in the app. It is dollar-denominated, it is liquid, and it is useless at the till.

BIX offers a self‑custody wallet combined with a Visa debit card that lets users spend stablecoins such as USDC and USDT directly at merchants that accept Visa.
How the service works
Users deposit USDC or USDT on supported networks—including Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Base, Solana and Optimism—and link the balance to a virtual Visa card. When the card is used, the merchant receives a standard fiat Visa transaction while the user’s stablecoin balance is debited in the app.
Pricing and fees
- Standard membership: free.
- Virtual Visa card: $9.99, usable for online and contactless mobile payments.
- No funding fees.
- 1% foreign‑exchange fee on applicable cross‑currency purchases.
- Physical card (planned): $99 with a 0.6% ATM withdrawal fee.
Target users
The product is aimed at stablecoin holders who want to avoid the traditional conversion loop of transferring to an exchange, selling, and withdrawing to a bank. A premium “BIX Plus” tier ($119 per year) adds virtual accounts with ACH, SEPA and SWIFT capabilities, as well as Visa Signature benefits such as airport lounge access and rental‑car insurance.
Availability and limitations
Currently available to residents of 29 U.S. states, with plans to expand to 49 states within six to eight months. The service is provided through third‑party financial institutions and is not a bank.
Future roadmap
Direct wallet‑linked spending and additional features are slated for future releases, aiming to keep the same funds in the app from holding to spending without detours.
