Germany widens MiCA lead as latest EU register update adds 6 banks

Germany expands its lead in EU MiCA authorizations with 79 crypto asset service providers, ahead of France and the Netherlands.

Germany has increased its lead in the number of crypto‑asset service providers (CASPs) authorized under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA). The latest update to the ESMA register added six German cooperative banks, bringing the country’s total to 79 CASPs.

New entries in the MiCA register

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) refreshed its MiCA register on 24 August 2026. The six new entries are all German cooperative banks:

  • Raiffeisenbank Aidlingen
  • Ihre Volksbank
  • VR‑Bank Mittelfranken Mitte
  • Volksbank Euskirchen
  • VR Bank Ried‑Überwald
  • Volksbank Backnang

Germany’s position in the EU

With 79 authorized CASPs, Germany now leads the EU, followed by France (35) and the Netherlands (29). The country’s total rose from 57 in late June, according to earlier ESMA data.

Factors behind the lead

Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) attributes the high number of authorizations to the country’s large financial sector and the presence of many credit institutions eligible to offer crypto services. BaFin also notes that Germany’s existing national licensing regime allowed some providers to use simplified procedures during the transition to MiCA.

Other MiCA registers

ESMA’s datasets for asset‑referenced tokens (ART), electronic money tokens (EMT) and non‑compliant entities remained unchanged. The ART register stayed empty, the EMT register listed 43 entries, and the non‑compliant entity list held 167 entries.
