Hunter Biden Defends LAPTOP Memecoin Ahead of Base Launch

Hunter Biden publicly defended the upcoming LAPTOP memecoin hours before its scheduled launch on the Base network on September 9. He described the token as a way to reclaim the laptop controversy that has followed him for years.

Supply Allocation and Distribution

The LAPTOP token will have a total supply of 1 billion tokens. The distribution plan includes:

• 20% community airdrops – targeted at wallets that lost money holding the TRUMP memecoin and other selected groups, including Biden’s Substack subscribers.
• 30% tied to predictions – linked to 30 predefined political, crypto and cultural outcomes. Tokens are burned if a prediction is correct; otherwise they are sent to charity.
• 30% founder allocation – subject to a six‑month lockup and a multi‑year vesting schedule.
• 20% reserved – for liquidity, exchange listings, legal, administrative and charitable purposes.

Prediction Mechanism

Examples of the predetermined events include a Democratic win in the 2028 U.S. presidential election, Bitcoin reaching a new all‑time high, and LAPTOP surpassing the market capitalization of the TRUMP token.

Criticism and Exchange Response

Crypto traders quickly raised concerns about the token’s political nature. Kraken removed a promotional post about LAPTOP after the criticism, and the exchange has not confirmed any listing plans. Base founder Jesse Pollak stated that the network chose not to design or promote the token, despite being approached by the project.

Connections to the TRUMP Memecoin

Biden contrasted LAPTOP with the TRUMP memecoin, noting that holders of TRUMP have suffered significant unrealized losses—nearly 989 000 wallets holding a combined $3.81 billion in losses according to Nansen data.
