Polish Olympic Committee President Charged in Zondacrypto Investigation

Polish prosecutors have formally charged Radosław Piesiewicz, president of the Polish Olympic Committee (POC), in connection with the investigation of the defunct cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto.

Charges and Legal Basis

According to Justice Minister and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek, Piesiewicz was charged under two provisions of Poland’s Penal Code. The accusations involve influence peddling and favoring certain creditors while the exchange was insolvent.

Alleged Misconduct

Local media report that Piesiewicz allegedly recovered the full amount of his investment in Zondacrypto, whereas thousands of other users were unable to withdraw their funds. Zondacrypto had been a general sponsor of the POC since October 2025.

Background on Zondacrypto

The exchange ceased trading in April after a liquidity crisis. Its former CEO, Przemysław Kral, claimed the firm could not access a wallet containing approximately 4,500 Bitcoin because it lacked the private keys. Kral has been charged with large‑scale fraud and is cooperating with investigators.

Significance

Piesiewicz’s detention is among the first arrests in the broader Zondacrypto probe, highlighting regulatory scrutiny of crypto‑related sponsorships and financial misconduct in Poland.
