Polymarket Shifts to In‑House rindexer Indexing for Faster On‑Chain Data

Polymarket has moved its primary blockchain indexing to the Rust‑based rindexer tool, cutting data latency by up to 14 blocks (about 28 seconds) and enabling near‑instant updates of trades, positions and balances.

Polymarket has transitioned its core blockchain indexing infrastructure to an internally‑operated system built with the open‑source Rust tool rindexer. The change reduces the time needed to surface on‑chain events by as much as 14 blocks—approximately 28 seconds—allowing trades, user positions and balances to update much more quickly.

In‑House Indexing with rindexer

Vice President of Engineering Josh Stevens explained that the new stack indexes data within 0‑10 ms of a block being broadcast, delivering near‑real‑time visibility of on‑chain activity. While rindexer now serves as the primary data path, Goldsky will remain as a backup provider.

How rindexer Works

rindexer is an open‑source EVM indexing tool written in Rust. It uses a YAML configuration to define indexing pipelines and offers a GraphQL API for querying indexed data. The framework supports extensions for more complex use cases, though its documentation notes that it is still under active development.

Broader Infrastructure Updates

  • Earlier this year Polymarket launched perpetual futures for international users, covering assets such as Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, gold, silver, oil and U.S. equity indices.
  • The platform added Bitcoin Lightning deposits via Spark, enabling faster funding.
  • Acquisitions of DeFi infrastructure startup Brahma, derivatives exchange QCEX and data provider Dome have expanded Polymarket’s technical stack.
  • Polymarket processed roughly $5 billion in World Cup trading, highlighting the growing demand on its infrastructure.

Continued Role for Goldsky

Goldsky, which previously supplied real‑time subgraphs and the Mirror product for linking on‑chain activity with off‑chain data, will continue to serve as a backup data source while Polymarket relies primarily on its own rindexer‑based system.
