Hackers Threaten Revolut Users with $3 Million Monero Ransom

A hacking group has announced that it targeted Revolut users who hold significant cryptocurrency balances. The attackers say they identified victims by scanning public blockchain data for addresses linked to Revolut accounts.

Ransom demand

The group is demanding a ransom of 3 million US dollars, to be paid in Monero (XMR). They have warned that failure to comply will result in the public sale of the compromised customer data.

Target selection method

According to the claim, the attackers used blockchain analytics to locate addresses associated with Revolut users that contain sizable crypto holdings. Those accounts were then singled out for the extortion attempt.

Potential impact

If the threats are carried out, affected Revolut customers could face exposure of personal and financial information, as well as loss of confidence in the platform’s security practices.
