Satoshi‑Era Bitcoin Whale Moves 600 BTC Worth $48 Million

Twelve legacy wallets created in 2010 transferred a total of 600 BTC—approximately $47.84 million—into new addresses, marking a rare sweep of early‑mined coins.

On September 5, 2026, a series of twelve transactions moved 600 BTC from wallets that were first created in 2010. The coins, valued at about $47.84 million at current rates, were sent to newer Pay‑to‑Witness‑Public‑Key‑Hash (P2WPKH) addresses.

Background of the wallets

The original addresses were Pay‑to‑Public‑Key (P2PK) wallets that received coinbase rewards between March 2 and March 5, 2010, when Bitcoin’s network difficulty was near 1 and mining was performed with CPUs. Arkham Intelligence identified these wallets as belonging to an early miner, predating the first recorded Bitcoin transaction on May 22, 2010.

Details of the sweep

The first transfer, of 50 BTC, occurred at block height 965639 and moved the coins to an unflagged P2WPKH wallet. Subsequent transfers—another 50 BTC at block 965645 and a batch of 500 BTC at block 965646—completed the sweep. Blockchair’s privacy meter assigned a score of 60 out of 100 (moderate) to the moves, indicating a “send‑everything” approach.

Significance

This is the first observed movement of a sizable batch of genuine Satoshi‑era coins since a major whale activity in January 2026. The coins were mined before Bitcoin had any market price, when values were between $0.0008 and $0.08 per BTC.

What’s next?

The destination wallets are currently unknown, and analysts have not indicated any immediate market impact. The sweep highlights the occasional activation of long‑dormant Bitcoin holdings.
