Solana Reduces Slot Time to 350 ms, Moving Toward 200 ms Goal

Solana has cut its blockchain slot time to 350 ms, the first change since the network’s launch, as part of a roadmap aiming for a 200 ms target to lower latency.

Roadmap to Faster Confirmations

The Solana Foundation announced a plan to lower slot times from 400 ms to 200 ms. The roadmap includes three additional 50 ms reductions, with each stage slated for activation on the Agave v4.2 validator client developed by Anza. The schedule remains tentative.

Governance Approval

The proposal identified as SIMD‑0525, which establishes the shorter slot times, was approved and merged on May 14.

Future Targets

Following the 350 ms reduction, Solana’s vice president of technology, Jacob Creech, indicated the next milestone will be a 300 ms slot time, continuing the progression toward the 200 ms objective.
