Solo GP Jed Breed raises $15 million for his second early-stage crypto fund
Breed VC has raised $15 million for its second crypto fund. Backers include FalconX, Nic Carter, Rob Hadick and Jake Brukhman.

Boston‑based Breed VC, led by solo general partner Jed Breed, closed a $15 million second fund aimed at pre‑seed and seed‑stage crypto startups. The fund targets “day zero” investments and plans to write checks of $250,000 to $750,000 per company.
Backers and fund strategy
Investors in Fund II include FalconX, Hutt Capital, Arrington Capital, Nic Carter (Castle Island Ventures), Rob Hadick (Dragonfly) and Jake Brukhman (CoinFund). Breed said the fund’s modest size is intentional, allowing the firm to focus on investor returns rather than management fees and to secure high‑conviction access to competitive Tier‑1 rounds.
Investment approach
Each check represents roughly 2 % to 5 % of the fund, giving Breed VC “real skin in the game” and enabling close collaboration with founders and lead investors. The firm has already deployed capital to Silicon Data, 3Jane, M1X Global and USD.AI, and expects to invest over the next three to four years.
First fund performance and portfolio
Breed’s first fund, launched in 2023, is fully invested and has begun returning capital. While the exact size was not disclosed, its portfolio includes Monad, Ethena, Exo Labs, Agora, MyPrize and Nous Research. Breed noted the fund ranks in the top 10 % of comparable 2023 venture funds according to Carta’s Q1 2026 benchmarks.
Market context
The raise comes amid a challenging environment for early‑stage crypto financing, with many smaller managers struggling to raise capital. Larger firms continue to raise sizable funds, such as a16z crypto’s $2.2 billion fifth fund, Haun Ventures’ $1 billion, and Framework Ventures’ $400 million fourth fund.
Team and outlook
Breed VC currently consists of Jed Breed and investment partner Nick Garcia and is hiring additional staff. Breed, a former head of digital assets at Circle and former leader of a crypto market‑neutral fund at Accomplice VC, remains optimistic about the market, citing rationalized valuations and long‑term founder focus.
