Bit2Me launches Bit2Shield to support crypto seizures and forensic investigations in Spain

Spain’s leading cryptocurrency exchange Bit2Me announced the formation of a dedicated forensic unit, Bit2Shield, to provide end‑to‑end services for law‑enforcement and financial authorities handling seized digital assets.

Scope of services

Bit2Shield will support investigations from the moment assets are identified through to their final disposal. Services include:

• Extraction of wallet information and location of cryptocurrency.
• Preparation of digitally signed forensic reports admissible in court.
• Cold‑wallet custody using multi‑signature protection.
• Coordination of crypto‑to‑fiat conversions and proceeds transfer.
• Training for police officers, judges and financial institutions.

Operational structure

The unit is legally registered as CryptoShield S.L. and works alongside Bit2Me’s existing operations. While Bit2Shield handles forensic and investigative tasks, the actual conversion of crypto to euros is performed by Bitcoinforme S.L., Bit2Me’s MiCA‑authorized entity.

Recent activity and partnerships

In 2025, Bit2Me processed €1.5 million in seized cryptocurrency for Interpol, Europol and Spanish police, using Chainalysis for blockchain tracing before converting the assets to euros. The new unit formalises these capabilities and expands Bit2Me’s role in the broader financial ecosystem, including collaborations with traditional banks such as Cecabank and Renta 4 Banco.

Regulatory context

Bit2Shield is not classified as a crypto‑asset service provider under the EU Markets in Crypto‑Assets (MiCA) framework because its activities focus on investigations and training. The conversion services remain under Bitcoinforme, which holds MiCA authorization.

Leadership

Adrián Maroño, a former member of the Spanish Civil Guard’s Central Operational Unit (UCO), will lead Bit2Shield’s forensic and investigative work.
