Students Want Crypto Classes but Turn to Social Media, OKX Survey Shows

A separate review found only about 28% of accredited US business schools offered blockchain courses, despite strong demand in the OKX poll.

Most U.S. college students favor the inclusion of cryptocurrency and blockchain topics in their curricula, but in the absence of formal courses, they rely heavily on social media for education, according to a survey commissioned by crypto exchange OKX.

Strong Support for Classroom Instruction

The OKX poll, conducted with 500 students and 500 parents via the Pollfish platform, found that 90% of students and 87% of parents support teaching crypto and blockchain at the college level. Of those, 27% of students and 32% of parents believe such instruction should be mandatory.

Current Availability of Blockchain Courses

A 2025 review of 533 U.S. universities with accredited business schools reported that roughly 28% of those institutions offered blockchain-related courses, indicating a gap between demand and supply.

Where Learners Get Their Information

Among the surveyed students, 33% identified social media or influencers as their primary source of crypto information—nearly five times more than those who cited schools, teachers, or professors. For parents, crypto platforms and apps were the leading source, cited by 21% of respondents.

Survey Methodology Notes

The survey was administered online to users of third‑party mobile apps and did not draw participants from OKX’s own customer base. OKX did not disclose weighting, margin of error, or the respondents’ rates of crypto ownership.
