Tether’s USDT0 launches on Stellar via LayerZero

USDT0 has launched on Stellar through LayerZero, connecting wallets, exchanges and applications to Tether-backed cross-chain liquidity.

On September 2, Tether introduced USDT0 on the Stellar network using LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard. The integration allows Stellar users to access Tether‑backed liquidity without relying on separate wrapped token pools on each blockchain.

How USDT0 works on Stellar

USDT0 is not a direct issuance of USDT on Stellar. Instead, it is an interoperability product that moves a unified USDT supply across supported chains. When the token is transferred, the system updates the total supply on the source and destination networks rather than creating a new wrapped representation.

Supported platforms and early adopters

At launch, several exchanges and wallet providers added USDT0 support, including Kraken, Bitget, Fireblocks, Freighter, Lobstr, Meru, BiLira Kripto, Kredete, Ramp Network and SushiSwap. Exodus announced upcoming integration.

Potential impact on Stellar’s ecosystem

The Stellar Development Foundation highlighted use cases such as payments, treasury transfers, trading and decentralized finance. Stellar’s network, which settles transactions in seconds with low XLM fees, aims to serve regions where USDT is widely used for dollar‑denominated transfers, such as Latin America, Africa and the Asia‑Pacific.

Liquidity and market considerations

Stellar reported $5.5 billion in stablecoin payment volume for Q1 2026, a 72 % year‑over‑year increase, but this figure predates the USDT0 launch. The $180 billion market cap cited refers to the broader USDT market, not to USDT0 balances on Stellar. Actual liquidity on Stellar will depend on the amount bridged, exchange listings, market‑maker activity and demand from payment providers.

Risks and next steps

While LayerZero’s technology aims to reduce fragmentation, users remain exposed to contract, messaging and operational risks inherent in cross‑chain transfers. Future developments will be measured by USDT0 supply on Stellar, transfer volumes, exchange deposits/withdrawals and decentralized‑exchange liquidity.
