U.S. government moves small amount of seized Bitcoin from Alameda accounts

The U.S. government transferred about 0.0048 BTC, valued at roughly $377, that was seized from Alameda Research accounts on Binance.US three years ago.

The United States Treasury moved a tiny portion of Bitcoin that had been seized from Alameda Research accounts on Binance.US. The transaction, reported by blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, involved approximately 0.0048 BTC, worth about $377 at the time of transfer.

Details of the transfer

Arkham’s monitoring platform showed the Bitcoin leaving a wallet labeled as belonging to the U.S. government. The firm did not describe the move as a sale, liquidation, or part of any creditor repayment plan. No destination address was identified as an exchange deposit.

Context of prior government activity

Earlier in the year, federal wallets moved seized assets tied to the collapse of FTX and Alameda Research, including a transfer of nearly $984,000 worth of cryptocurrency to Coinbase Prime. Those larger movements were linked to the FTX estate’s effort to return recovered funds to creditors.

Strategic Bitcoin Reserve considerations

The transfer occurs amid ongoing discussions about the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, created by an executive order in March 2025. Under the reserve’s framework, Bitcoin that is finally forfeited to the government can be held without a sale requirement, while seized assets may still be subject to court proceedings or restitution claims. Treasury officials continue to clarify custody and authority over such assets.

Legal background

Alameda Research was closely tied to the failed FTX exchange. Founder Sam Bankman‑Fried was convicted in November 2023 and sentenced to 25 years in March 2024. Ongoing bankruptcy proceedings aim to distribute recovered assets to creditors, and previous government transfers have been linked to that process.

Unclear purpose of the latest move

Arkham’s post asked whether the government might begin liquidating additional Alameda‑related Bitcoin, but no agency has confirmed the intent behind the 0.0048 BTC transfer. The transaction remains the smallest known movement of seized Alameda Bitcoin to date.
