U.S. Bitcoin Mining Share Declines Slightly as Russia and China Gain
From the start of the year and 57 days into the third quarter, the United States has seen its share of Bitcoin’s hashrate slide nearly a percentage point, along with roughly 55 exahash per second (EH/s) of computational power. At the same time, other nation‑states that dominate mining, like China and Russia, captured more of the global share of hashpower.

Bitcoin’s global mining landscape has shifted modestly between the first and third quarters of 2026. While the United States remains the largest single contributor, its share of the network’s total hashrate fell by just under one percentage point.
U.S. Mining Dominance Slightly Erodes
At the beginning of 2026 the United States accounted for 37.523% of Bitcoin’s total computational power. By August 27, 2026 that share had slipped to 36.7%, a decline of 0.823% and an estimated loss of about 55 EH/s.
Russia and China Increase Their Relative Shares
Russia, the second‑largest mining nation, rose from 16.417% to 17.2% of the global hashrate, despite a drop in absolute power from 175 EH/s to roughly 162 EH/s (a loss of ~13 EH/s). China’s share grew from 11.276% to 12.2%, even though its total fell from 125 EH/s to about 115 EH/s.
Other Notable Changes
- Paraguay increased its share from 4.034% to 4.7%, adding roughly 1 EH/s.
- Canada’s share slipped from 2.627% to 2.6%, a loss of about 4 EH/s.
- Kazakhstan, Oman, and Ethiopia each saw modest declines in both share and absolute hashrate.
Overall Network Hashrate
Bitcoin’s total network hashrate stood at 892.35 EH/s on August 27, 2026, down from just above 1,000 EH/s at the start of the year.
Rising Hashprice May Influence Future Distribution
The revenue per petahash (hashprice) rose 27.42% over the past 30 days, moving from $31.66 to $40.34 per PH/s. Higher profitability could attract new miners and further reshape the geographic distribution of hashpower.
