X to Add Trade Buttons to Timeline, Former Product Head Refutes Shadowban Claims

Former X head of product Nikita Bier announced that trade buttons allowing users to buy tokens directly from their timelines will be released soon. The feature will sit alongside the existing live token charts provided by X’s Cashtags.

New Trade Buttons Feature

Bier explained that he built the Cashtags tool, which currently displays Solana and Ethereum price charts in posts and supports pasting contract addresses for newly minted tokens. The upcoming trade buttons will let users place orders with a single tap, eliminating the need to leave X for a wallet or exchange.

Cashtags History

Cashtags were first rolled out to iPhone users in the United States and Canada in April, generating an estimated $1 billion in trading volume within 48 hours. Live stock charts were added to the feature in May.

Shadowban Rumors Addressed

After a user suggested that a crypto bull market began because Bier was no longer “shadow banning Crypto Twitter,” Bier responded that X had offered no crypto‑trading features before his involvement and that the new trade button is a product development, not a moderation decision.

Market Context

Bier attributed the recent crypto rally to U.S. Treasury bond buybacks rather than X’s platform changes. He noted that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent increased long‑dated government debt purchases on August 20, a move critics have linked to a $950 billion buyback plan.

Current Status

Bier stepped back from his product role at X this month and remains as an adviser, leaving the rollout to his successor. No specific launch date for the trade buttons has been announced, and Cashtags currently cover only a limited set of markets, so broader integration will be required before the buy button can function as an order book.
