Three Updates Affect 21Shares Crypto ETFs for Ethereum, XRP, Dogecoin and More
Three changes hit 21Shares XRP, DOGE, and Ethereum ETFs. Staking names, FTSE pricing, and new fees explained.
21Shares announced three operational updates that take effect on Thursday, August 27, for its suite of U.S. crypto exchange‑traded funds (ETFs). The changes involve fund naming, pricing methodology, and fee collection, while existing share holdings remain unchanged.
Staking Highlight Added to Fund Names
Two of the five funds were renamed in Delaware filings on August 25:
- The 21Shares Ethereum ETF is now the 21Shares Ethereum Staking ETF.
- The 21Shares Polkadot ETF is now the 21Shares Polkadot Staking ETF.
The Bitcoin fund (partnered with ARK Invest) retains the ticker ARKB, and the XRP and Dogecoin funds keep their original names. The renaming reflects that the Ethereum and Polkadot funds already stake their underlying assets and now emphasize yield in the product name.
Pricing Source Switch to FTSE Indices
Effective August 27, all five funds will calculate their net asset value (NAV) using FTSE Russell indices. This replaces the previous CF Benchmarks rates, which are set to expire on August 31. The new FTSE‑based pricing will appear on holders’ statements and aligns the funds with a different benchmark provider.
Fee Collection Adjusted to Quarterly Schedule
21Shares will change its sponsor fee collection from a weekly to a quarterly cadence. Fees will continue to be paid in the respective cryptocurrency of each fund (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polkadot).
Market Context
Staked‑ether products have attracted investor interest, with other managers such as BlackRock and Fidelity launching or filing similar staked‑Ethereum funds. Recent flow data indicates a shift toward yield‑focused products, and institutional activity (e.g., changes in holdings by Intesa Sanpaolo) mirrors this trend. However, investors should note that withdrawing staked ether can involve delays due to network queues.
