Ripple and Coincheck Form New Custody Partnerships to Boost Asian Institutional Crypto Services

Ripple teams up with SettleMint and Coincheck partners with DFNS to launch custody and tokenized asset solutions for institutions across Asia, amid rapid on‑chain growth and evolving regulations.

Blockchain enterprise provider Ripple announced a strategic partnership with digital‑asset infrastructure firm SettleMint to deliver end‑to‑end custody, issuance and management of tokenized assets for Asian institutional participants. The collaboration will combine Ripple Custody with SettleMint’s Digital Asset Lifecycle Platform, simplifying the security and handling of digital assets for financial institutions.

Coincheck and DFNS expand wallet and custody capabilities in Japan

In a separate deal, Japan‑based digital‑asset service provider Coincheck Group joined forces with wallet‑infrastructure company DFNS. DFNS’s wallet‑as‑a‑service platform offers institutions full transaction‑lifecycle management, workflow orchestration and governance controls across more than 100 blockchain networks, enabling new custody services for Japanese clients.

Addressing the infrastructure gap

Both partnerships aim to close the infrastructure gap that has limited regulated financial institutions from entering the digital‑asset market. By providing integrated custody and tokenization tools, the collaborations seek to make institutional participation in crypto more straightforward and secure.

Rapid growth of on‑chain activity in Asia‑Pacific

Chainalysis’ 2025 Global Adoption Index identified the Asia‑Pacific region as the fastest‑growing area for on‑chain crypto activity, reporting a 69% year‑over‑year increase in value received. This surge underscores the region’s expanding demand for robust digital‑asset services.

Regulatory developments supporting digital assets

Several Asian jurisdictions are refining cryptocurrency regulations. In July, Japan’s parliament amended the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act to classify crypto assets as financial assets, aligning them with traditional finance. Earlier in the year, Japan’s finance minister expressed intent to integrate crypto under the same regulatory umbrella as conventional assets.
