Coinbase restores Coinbase Wallet name to Base App

Coinbase restores the Coinbase Wallet name. The app now points traders at leverage, prediction markets and tokenized stocks.

Coinbase has renamed the platform previously known as Base App back to Coinbase Wallet, ending a year‑long experiment to turn the wallet into a social network.

Background on the rename

The consumer app was rebranded to Base App in July 2025, aligning it with Coinbase’s own Base blockchain network launched in 2023. The rename added a feed, messaging and mini‑apps, but the on‑chain social features failed to gain traction. In July 2026, Base creator Jesse Pollak handed the app back to Coinbase, describing the social experiment as a failure.

Focus on trading features

Coinbase Wallet now emphasizes leveraged trading, prediction markets and tokenized stocks across more than ten blockchain networks. The wallet routes users to Hyperliquid for perpetual futures—contracts with no expiry that allow leveraged price bets. Prediction markets and tokenized stocks are also supported, with Robinhood Chain and Monad added to the list of compatible networks.

Regulatory and user impact

Perpetual futures remain unavailable to United States users, a restriction currently under regulatory review. Coinbase has not released a fee schedule for the wallet nor confirmed whether the trading focus has increased user numbers. Web pages still displayed the Base App branding shortly after the name change, indicating a transitional period.

What traders will notice

  • New Coinbase Wallet icon replacing the Base App branding.
  • Direct access to Hyperliquid for on‑chain perpetual futures.
  • Availability of tokenized stocks and prediction markets on supported networks.
