Coinbase Wallet reverts to original name, pivots to multichain trading and on‑chain finance
Coinbase has restored the Coinbase Wallet name just over a year after replacing it with Base App, positioning the self‑custodial product around multichain trading, perpetual futures, prediction markets and tokenized stocks.

Coinbase announced that the product formerly known as Base App will once again be called Coinbase Wallet. The rebranding follows a shift away from the earlier “everything app” vision toward a focus on on‑chain trading, transfers and earning features.
Self‑custodial “test kitchen” for new assets
According to Ryan Kass, head of Coinbase Wallet product, the wallet will serve as a testing ground for assets and product types that are not listed on Coinbase’s centralized exchange. Long‑tail tokens become visible once they are minted on any of the supported networks, and the company plans to add additional chains as they launch.
Multichain support expands
The wallet now supports ten networks: Base, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, Avalanche, Monad and Robinhood Chain. The addition of Robinhood Chain and Monad broadens the app’s reach beyond Coinbase’s own layer‑2 network while keeping Base central to the experience.
On‑chain perpetual futures via Hyperliquid
Coinbase integrated Hyperliquid’s perpetual futures platform in August, giving eligible users access to more than 290 markets with leverage up to 50× on certain contracts. The offering includes contracts tied to Bitcoin, Ethereum, stocks and commodities. Trades are executed on‑chain through Hyperliquid, while the Coinbase interface is used to open and manage positions. The service is unavailable to users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and other restricted jurisdictions.
Tokenized stocks and prediction markets
Eligible customers can also trade tokenized U.S. stocks—Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet—issued on‑chain through a Coinbase‑controlled entity in the Abu Dhabi Global Market. These 1:1‑backed tokens are not registered under U.S. securities law and cannot be offered to U.S. persons. Prediction markets are available subject to separate compliance reviews and jurisdictional restrictions.
Self‑custody and security features
Coinbase Wallet remains self‑custodial, meaning users retain control of private keys. The wallet automatically flags and hides tokens identified as scams or malicious assets. Messaging and other social features from the Base App era are retained, but the primary emphasis is now on trading and financial services.
Regulatory and geographic limits
While the product markets itself as “no KYC, no waiting, and no borders,” individual features remain subject to location‑based limits. U.S. customers access regulated futures through Coinbase Financial Markets, a CFTC‑registered futures commission merchant, which is separate from the Hyperliquid integration.
