Bitcoin slides to $83,300 as bond yields hit highest level since 2007

The 10-year Treasury yield reached its highest since 2007, sending U.S. stocks and crypto lower before Asian and European traders bought the dip.

Bitcoin fell to $83,344, down about 1.2% since midnight UTC, reversing an early‑day recovery as the 10‑year U.S. Treasury yield rose to its highest level since 2007. The yield increase pressured equities and crypto together, with the dollar gaining modestly.

Market backdrop

The dollar index rose 0.13% to 101.24, its highest since July. Gold slipped 0.71% to $4,257, while Nasdaq 100 futures fell more than 1% and S&P 500 futures dropped 0.61%.

Crypto price action

  • Bitcoin (BTC) – $83,344, –1.23%
  • Ethereum (ETH) – $2,642.86, –1.55%
  • XRP – down 2.87%
  • Solana (SOL) – $113.14, –1.61%
  • Litecoin (LTC) – $66.97, +8.1%

Derivatives and positioning

Short positions accounted for over 52% of 24‑hour taker volume, which rose 10% to $250 billion, while open interest fell nearly 6% to $149 billion. Bitcoin futures open interest dropped 6%, outpacing the 3% price decline, indicating real contract closures rather than fresh short builds.

On Binance, the whale long/short ratio stayed above 1 (around 1.30), suggesting large accounts are not adding to the sell pressure.

Altcoin dynamics

Altcoins generally lagged Bitcoin, with XRP’s open interest falling faster than its price, while ETH and SOL showed open interest declines roughly matching price drops. Litecoin was an outlier, gaining 8% and seeing futures open interest rise to 8.96 million tokens, the highest since mid‑January.

Volatility and options

30‑day implied volatility for BTC and ETH remained stable, and BTC’s one‑week options skew turned positive, reflecting increased demand for downside protection. Over $17 billion in BTC and ETH options are set to expire on Friday, most of them in‑the‑money.

Other notable moves

  • Ethereum Classic (ETC) – +7.6% to $9.42
  • Morpho (MORPHO) – +4.1% to $2.67
  • Venice (VVV) – –5.2% to $28.63
  • Hyperliquid (HYPE) – –3.9% to $90.39
