Bitcoin Suisse Cutting up to 50% of Swiss Workforce

Swiss crypto firm Bitcoin Suisse is restructuring to expand internationally as a global wealth manager, a move that will cut up to 50% of its workforce at its Zug headquarters.

Swiss cryptocurrency pioneer Bitcoin Suisse announced a major restructuring that will see up to half of its staff at the Zug headquarters eliminated. The company plans to shift a large portion of its back‑office and administrative functions to lower‑cost locations in Bratislava, Slovakia, and Vietnam.

Layoffs and Relocation

The exact number of positions to be cut will be determined after a mandatory 10‑day consultation process, with the first layoffs expected before the end of the year. Employees were informed of the plan during a town‑hall meeting on September 11.

Strategic Shift to Global Wealth Management

Group CEO and co‑founder Andrej Majcen said the move is driven by a long‑term strategy to transform Bitcoin Suisse from a regional crypto specialist into an international asset‑management provider for wealthy private clients, family offices, and institutional investors. The firm has already expanded its services beyond crypto trading and custody to include staking and lending.

Regulatory Expansion

To support the international pivot, Bitcoin Suisse secured several licences this year, including a MiCAR licence for its Liechtenstein subsidiary, which enables passporting across the European Economic Area. Additional approvals were obtained for digital‑asset activities in Bermuda and full regulatory clearance in Abu Dhabi.

Impact on Swiss Operations

Despite the cuts, Bitcoin Suisse will retain its headquarters in Zug, keep its corporate name, and maintain its Swiss client‑facing teams. The restructuring adds to a broader trend of workforce reductions in the Swiss financial sector, with similar moves announced by UBS, Helvetia Baloise, Raiffeisen Switzerland, and Swiss Life.
