Bitget Marks Eight Years with Open Letter on Trust, Security and Compliance
Bitget’s Chief Legal Officer Hon Ng outlines the exchange’s growth to over 125 million users, expanded Proof of Reserves, a $382 million Protection Fund and multi‑jurisdictional compliance as it pursues its Universal Exchange vision.
Bitget celebrated its eighth anniversary by publishing an open letter from Chief Legal Officer Hon Ng. The letter reviews the platform’s evolution from a crypto‑derivatives exchange to a multi‑asset Universal Exchange (UEX) serving more than 125 million users, and details how transparency, security and compliance have been scaled to match that growth.
Growth and Expanded Offering
Originally a derivatives‑only venue, Bitget now offers crypto, tokenized equities, commodities and other global markets under its UEX vision. The broader product suite brings a larger user base and heightened responsibility for the exchange.
Transparency Measures
Bitget introduced Proof of Reserves in December 2022 and has published monthly reports ever since. As of September 2026, the 46th consecutive report showed a total reserve ratio of 135 % and an average ratio above 120 %. The coverage has been expanded from four assets to 19, allowing users to verify a wider range of holdings.
Financial Safeguards
The exchange created a Protection Fund in 2022 with an initial $300 million commitment. By August 2026 the fund’s valuation had risen to approximately $382 million, providing an additional safety net for users in extreme circumstances.
Layered Security
Security is addressed at multiple levels, including two‑factor authentication, FIDO2/WebAuthn passkeys, anti‑phishing codes, device controls, withdrawal safeguards, transaction monitoring, anomaly detection and fraud‑prevention systems. A Market Integrity and Token Accountability Framework was launched to monitor post‑listing activity and mitigate manipulation, weak liquidity and other risks.
Regulatory Footprint
Bitget operates under registrations, licences and approvals in jurisdictions such as Argentina, Australia, El Salvador, Georgia (Tbilisi Free Zone), Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and others. Compliance processes include KYC/KYB, AML/CFT controls, sanctions screening and ongoing regulator engagement.
UEX Security Standard
In partnership with BlockSec, Bitget is developing a UEX Security Standard covering verifiable solvency, multi‑asset risk isolation, data and privacy protection, dynamic monitoring and infrastructure defence.
Key Takeaway
The letter emphasizes that growth and responsibility are inseparable; as Bitget expands its services, it must continuously enhance transparency, security and compliance to protect user assets and maintain market confidence.
