Brazil Central Bank Launches Real‑Time Crypto Threat Alert System

The Central Bank of Brazil, together with blockchain security firm Hypernative, has built a real‑time alert network linking banks and domestic crypto exchanges to track illicit fund movements after a $180 million cyber‑theft.

The Central Bank of Brazil has completed development of a real‑time crypto threat alert system in partnership with blockchain security company Hypernative. The platform will connect banks and domestic cryptocurrency exchanges, allowing alerts about suspicious fund movements to be shared across the financial system.

Integration timeline and participants

Integration of the system is expected to begin within two weeks. Brazilian exchanges Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin are among the first participants, having taken part in the testing phase alongside several banks.

How the system works

The alert network is designed to help institutions identify cyber‑attacks, respond to suspicious activity, and trace funds when stolen money moves from traditional banking channels into crypto markets. Alerts generated by one participant can be redistributed to others that may encounter the same funds later, improving overall traceability.

Background: $180 million cyber‑theft

The project gained urgency after a 2025 attack on financial‑software provider C&M Software, which siphoned between $140 million and $180 million from reserve accounts. Part of the proceeds was converted into Bitcoin, Ether and USDT through Brazilian exchanges and over‑the‑counter platforms.

Complementary regulatory measures

Starting 1 January 2027, virtual‑asset service providers will be required to impose a 24‑hour preventive hold on qualifying crypto transfers above $10,000. The hold applies to single or aggregated daily transactions and aims to give providers additional time to conduct risk checks on transfers that could be linked to fraud.

Next steps

Associations and participating firms must adapt their systems to receive and redistribute alerts. The Central Bank expects the tool to move from testing to full implementation as banks and exchanges integrate the alert feed into their operational processes.
