Circle’s Arc Blockchain Hosts First Tokenized Gold Asset from Matrixdock
Matrixdock’s XAUm token, representing one ounce of gold stored in Hong Kong and Singapore vaults, is now live on Circle’s Arc blockchain, with cash‑out rules that differ from its published three‑day policy.
Matrixdock has issued its first tokenized gold asset, XAUm, on Circle’s Arc blockchain. Each XAUm token represents one ounce of physical gold held by Brink’s or Malca‑Amit in vaults located in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Cash‑out Timing
Matrixdock’s documentation states that sellers should expect cash proceeds within three working days. The company also advertises a same‑day cash option for eligible sales, but this requires proof of transaction and operates during New York business hours, which are offset from the vaults’ local time.
Comparison with Other Gold Tokens
- XAUm requires 32.148 tokens to redeem a one‑kilogram bar, compared with Paxos’ requirement of 430 PAXG for a London Good Delivery bar.
- XAUm is available on eight blockchain networks, including Arc, whereas tether-gold-xaut">Tether Gold is limited to Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, and PAX Gold primarily runs on Ethereum with a recent addition of Solana.
- Market value of XAUm is about $4,318 per token, totaling roughly $71 million, while Tether Gold and PAX Gold have market caps in the $2.3‑$2.5 billion range.
Arc Network Background
Circle launched the Arc network on September 16, with participation from Visa, BlackRock and Standard Chartered. On its opening day, 82 % of the $410.8 million traded volume involved minting joke tokens, according to BeInCrypto data.
Current Functionality
The gold represented by XAUm can be sold on the Arc blockchain, but it cannot yet be used as collateral for borrowing.
