Coinbase and Moov Team Up to Add Stablecoin Payments for Community Banks and Credit Unions

Coinbase’s Payments API and custodial wallets will be integrated into Moov’s platform, enabling more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions to accept, settle and fund stablecoin transactions without building their own crypto infrastructure.

U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase and payments infrastructure provider Moov announced a partnership aimed at bringing stablecoin payment acceptance, settlement and real‑time funding to over 1,000 community banks and credit unions.

Embedding Stablecoin Rails into Existing Banking Systems

The integration will use Coinbase’s Payments API and custodial wallets to embed stablecoin rails directly into Moov’s existing payments platform. This allows participating institutions to offer consumer payments, merchant acceptance, settlement and payouts without developing their own crypto infrastructure.

Why Community Banks Are Interested

Ryan VanGrack, Coinbase’s head of corporate affairs, said community banks and credit unions have seen customers use digital assets for years and need modern technology that fits their existing systems. Jill Castilla, CEO of Citizens Bank of Edmond, highlighted that small‑business customers are looking for ways to lower interchange costs and receive payments faster.

Broader Context of Coinbase’s Banking Strategy

Coinbase’s approach to banking has shifted from acting solely as a crypto venue and custodian to providing infrastructure that can be embedded in traditional financial services. Earlier collaborations include a July 2025 partnership with PNC and subsequent linkups with Citi and JPMorgan, positioning Coinbase as a potential core infrastructure provider for banks.
