Deutsche Bank to launch institutional crypto custody service
Deutsche Bank plans institutional crypto custody this year, supporting Bitcoin, Ether, USDC, EURC and EURAU after regulatory steps.

Deutsche Bank announced that it will roll out an institutional digital‑asset custody platform later in 2026. The service is aimed at corporate and institutional clients in Germany and will initially support a limited set of assets.
Initial asset coverage
The first five tokens slated for custody are Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), the dollar‑backed stablecoin USDC, the euro‑backed stablecoin EURC, and EURAU, an e‑money token linked to the euro.
Regulatory and operational framework
The launch is contingent on completing the required regulatory approvals under the EU MiCA framework, internal risk‑management sign‑offs, and client onboarding procedures. Deutsche Bank has already filed a notification with BaFin and the Bundesbank, but the exact launch date remains unspecified.
Custody model and security
The bank will retain control of client wallets and private keys, employing a combination of warm and cold storage, hardware security modules, multi‑person transaction approval, and segregation of duties. The architecture is designed to allow secure safekeeping as well as transfers to third parties.
Technology partners
Deutsche Bank will use external technology providers for specific components. Earlier disclosures indicate collaborations with Swiss infrastructure firm Taurus and Bitpanda Enterprise for custody and tokenisation technology, though the partners are not named in the latest announcement.
Future roadmap
Beyond the initial cryptocurrency and stablecoin offering, the bank intends to explore custody of tokenised financial instruments such as equities, bonds and real‑estate tokens, subject to client demand and further regulatory clearance.
