Four Men Hold French Family Captive to Extract €40,000 in Crypto

Four masked men broke into a home in Vendin‑le‑Vieil early Sunday, restrained a family of four and compelled the father, a salaried IT specialist in the crypto sector, to hand over about €40,000 in digital assets.

The intruders entered the residence around 4 a.m., bound the parents and their two children (aged eight and twelve) with black tape, and searched the premises. They separated the father from his family, assaulted him for his access codes and forced him to disclose identification information and crypto passwords. During the ordeal, the 12‑year‑old daughter was struck in the face with car keys.

After obtaining the €40,000 (approximately $46,000), the attackers left the property. Firefighters arrived at about 7 a.m.; the victims freed themselves and were taken for forensic medical examinations.

French prosecutors have opened a case for unlawful detention and extortion, treating the incident as an organized‑gang crime. The regional judicial police and the national anti‑cybercrime office are handling the investigation, and all four suspects remain at large.
