Hana Bank issues $100 million digital bond on Euroclear’s blockchain platform
The five-year digital bond reportedly shortened settlement from three to five business days to the same day using Euroclear’s blockchain infrastructure.

South Korea’s Hana Bank has issued a five‑year, $100 million digital bond using Euroclear’s blockchain‑based Digital Financial Market Infrastructure. The transaction, reported by Yonhap News Agency, marks the first digital bond issuance in South Korea that directly leverages Euroclear’s distributed‑ledger technology.
Process and settlement speed
According to the report, the bond’s issuance, registration and settlement were all conducted on a distributed ledger network. The use of blockchain for allocation and payment settlement reduced the typical settlement period from three‑to‑five business days to same‑day settlement.
Integration with existing markets
The digital bond is linked to Euroclear’s global settlement network, enabling investors to trade it through their existing accounts and trading systems without requiring separate infrastructure.
Background on Euroclear’s service
Euroclear launched its Digital Securities Issuance service in October 2023, initially settling a €100 million digital bond issued by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. That three‑year bond was listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
Cointelegraph was unable to obtain comments from Hana Bank, and Euroclear had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
