HashKey Becomes First Asian Member of DTCC Digital Assets Working Group

HashKey Group joins the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s Digital Assets Advisory Services Industry Working Group, bringing Asia‑Pacific regulatory experience to global tokenization discussions.

HashKey Group announced its entry into the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) Digital Assets Advisory Services Industry Working Group, marking the first participation of an Asian digital‑asset service provider in the forum.

Purpose of the Working Group

The DTCC group advises on the development of a tokenization service that will allow securities held in the DTC depository to be represented on blockchain networks while remaining under traditional custody. The advisory panel, which includes banks, asset managers, exchanges and blockchain infrastructure firms, reviews product functionality, operational processes and market standards.

HashKey’s Role and Experience

HashKey will contribute its Asia‑Pacific regulatory and operational knowledge, drawn from activities in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Bermuda. The firm has been involved in Hong Kong’s tokenised bond initiatives, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Project Ensemble Architecture Community, and the local Tokenised Bond Expert Group, supporting the issuance of tokenised money‑market ETFs, bonds and structured notes.

Working Group Membership

According to HashKey, the group now includes more than 100 participants, among them JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange. DTCC’s earlier announcement in May listed over 50 members; the higher figure reflects additional institutions that have joined since the group’s public launch.

DTCC Tokenization Timeline

DTCC completed its first production‑environment tokenized transactions in July, testing equity transfers, collateral pledges, securities lending and delivery‑versus‑payment involving U.S. Treasuries and repurchase agreements. The trials used a private Hyperledger Besu blockchain and the public Canton Network, featuring assets such as Microsoft and Circle shares, the Invesco QQQ Trust, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF and a BlackRock Treasury ETF.

DTCC aims to launch a standardized tokenization service in October 2026, initially offering compliance and distribution controls, with later phases adding automation for issuance, servicing and corporate actions.

Implications

HashKey’s participation does not constitute regulatory approval of any specific product, nor does it guarantee that DTCC will adopt HashKey’s infrastructure. The collaboration is advisory, intended to shape global standards for institutional token issuance, settlement and custody.
