Brooklyn Man Sentenced to Up to 12 Years for $16 Million Coinbase Scam

Spektor posed as a Coinbase customer‑support representative and warned victims that their accounts were under imminent hacker attack. He instructed them to transfer their cryptocurrency to wallets he presented as secure. The court ordered him to forfeit more than $500,000 in cash, cryptocurrency, and personal property and to pay nearly $16 million in restitution. The sentence fell within the four‑to‑12‑year range he had agreed to in his plea deal.
