Ripple adds XRP payments to Stripe and Tempo’s AI standard in new developer kit

Ripple has released version 1.1 of its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) created by Stripe and Tempo, as well as integration with the Open Wallet Standard.

New payment capabilities

The kit now enables AI agents to make both one‑time and ongoing payments in XRP, and to pay with ledger‑issued tokens such as RLUSD. Ongoing payment sessions are currently limited to XRP; extending them to stablecoins will require a future ledger upgrade.

Open Wallet Standard integration

Through the Open Wallet Standard, software can request transactions without exposing private keys, while enforcing limits on spending and approved destinations. This provides a common interface for managing wallets across multiple blockchains.

Strategic implications

By supporting both the x402 web‑payment standard (added in June) and MPP, Ripple gives developers flexibility to accept XRP or RLUSD regardless of which protocol they choose. The integration positions XRP and RLUSD as first‑class options for services that charge AI agents for data, computing power, or other online resources.

Current status

The new features are in beta. Ripple has not disclosed any commercial users or transaction volumes for the MPP integration.
