Ripple Legal Chief Calls for Crypto Unity After CLARITY Act Defeat

Ripple’s chief legal officer, Stuart Alderoty, urged the cryptocurrency sector to unify its policy messaging after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act. In a post on X on September 17, Alderoty framed the vote as a political setback rather than a rejection of crypto adoption.

Senate vote stalls CLARITY Act

The Senate rejected cloture on H.R. 3633, the CLARITY Act, by a 49‑50 vote on September 15. The three‑fifths threshold required to move the bill forward was not met, leaving the proposed federal market‑structure legislation stalled.

Call for a single industry voice

Alderoty argued that competing messages from crypto companies and advocacy groups weakened the industry’s position. He wrote, “Our industry has too many voices pushing too many messages. That’s on us to fix. It’s time to speak with one voice through one megaphone.”

Industry context and support

The National Cryptocurrency Association’s 2026 State of Crypto Holders survey, conducted with The Harris Poll, estimated that more than 67 million U.S. adults own cryptocurrency. Alderoty used this figure to emphasize that consumer interest will persist regardless of the legislative outcome.
