Ripple Unlocks 1 Billion XRP in September Release

Ripple released a total of 1 billion XRP from its on‑ledger escrow on September 1, following the company’s established monthly release schedule.

Details of the September Unlock

The release was split into three transactions of 500 million, 400 million and 100 million XRP. Ripple originally placed 55 billion XRP into escrow in 2017, with any unused tokens returning to escrow for future releases. Prior to this unlock, about 32.28 billion XRP were locked; after the release the locked amount fell to roughly 31.14 billion XRP, leaving around 31.3 % of the total 100 billion XRP supply still escrowed.

Impact on Market Supply

While the headline figure suggests a large influx of tokens, Ripple typically re‑escrows a significant portion of each monthly release. Consequently, the amount that actually reaches the broader market is smaller than the 1 billion XRP unlocked.

XRP Price Momentum

At the time of reporting, XRP traded near $1.36, down 0.5 % over the previous 24 hours and about 8.2 % over the past week after peaking near $1.70 in August. Over the last 30 days the token gained roughly 30.8 %, and over 90 days it rose about 14.5 %, though it remains under pressure on a year‑to‑date basis.

Trader Liquidations

In the last 24 hours, more than $3.32 million worth of XRP positions were liquidated. Short positions accounted for approximately $1.19 million of those liquidations, while long positions saw about $2.13 million liquidated, indicating bearish traders absorbed more of the recent volatility.

The token’s ability to sustain its recent gains will depend on market demand absorbing the newly released XRP without triggering additional selling pressure.
