Wall Street’s Altcoin ETF Rotation Fails to Spark Broad Altseason
Regulated funds are pouring into Ethereum, XRP and Solana, while Bitcoin ETFs see outflows, but the broader crypto market shows little sign of an altseason.

US exchange‑traded funds (ETFs) linked to Ethereum, XRP and Solana attracted nearly $59 million on September 9, while Bitcoin‑related products recorded withdrawals of $120.24 million. Despite this intra‑category shift, the wider crypto market has not entered an altseason.
ETF inflows show a narrow rotation
On the day in question, Ethereum funds received $34.75 million, XRP products $12.29 million and Solana $11.73 million. Bitcoin ETFs posted a second consecutive day of net outflows. Over the 30‑day period ending September 9, Bitcoin ETFs still led with $3.42 billion of net inflows, followed by Ether ($1.76 billion), Solana ($200.88 million) and XRP ($185.32 million). These four assets accounted for roughly $5.57 billion of the $5.64 billion total net inflows across all completed spot crypto ETF categories tracked by SoSoValue.
Assets under management remain concentrated
Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF products hold $99.33 billion and $15.69 billion respectively, while XRP and Solana each sit near $1.5 billion. The next‑largest category, Hyperliquid, holds about $464 million, and Chainlink under $182 million. All other completed categories sit below $60 million.
Altseason metrics stay low
BlockchainCenter’s Altcoin Season Index was 37 on September 9, well under the 75 threshold that defines an altseason (when three‑quarters of the top 50 eligible tokens outperform Bitcoin over 90 days). CoinGecko data shows Bitcoin’s market‑cap share at 56.64%, essentially unchanged from three months and a year earlier.
Implications for investors and issuers
The data suggests that institutional investors can rotate among a small set of regulated altcoins without affecting the broader token market. Smaller‑cap tokens such as Dogecoin, Avalanche, Polkadot, Litecoin and BNB recorded zero net flows on September 9, despite Bitcoin outflows and inflows into larger altcoins. For fund issuers, the challenge may shift from adding new assets to ETFs to encouraging capital to move beyond the handful of currently favored tokens.
