Blockchain Association Announces Leadership Change with Interim CEO Kristin Smith

The Blockchain Association, a leading cryptocurrency trade group, announced a leadership transition. Current CEO Summer Mersinger will leave her role on Oct. 16 and continue as an advisor until the end of the year.

Interim leadership

Former CEO Kristin Smith will assume the interim chief executive position on Oct. 17. Smith, who currently serves as president of the Solana Policy Institute, will retain her existing responsibilities while guiding the association through its next phase.

Mersinger’s tenure

During Mersinger’s time as CEO, the association navigated significant policy developments, including the passage of stablecoin legislation signed into law in July 2025 and advocacy for broader crypto measures such as the Clarity Act, which passed the House but stalled in the Senate.

Background of the outgoing CEO

Before joining the Blockchain Association, Mersinger served as a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, having been nominated by former President Joe Biden to fill a Republican seat in March 2022.
